Algeria defeated its host Djibouti 4-0 at Cairo International Stadium on Friday in the fifth and penultimate round of the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Qatar.
Algeria raised its score to 13 points at the top of Group A, two points ahead of Burkina Faso, which drew 1-1 at home with Niger.
Algeria will meet in a decisive match with Burkina Faso at the end of the group competitions next Tuesday at Mustapha Chaker Stadium in Blida.
Youssef Belaili got a penalty kick in the 25th minute, which he failed to score, before the same player returned to score in the 29th minute in a superb way to put Algeria in front.
Said bin Rahma doubled the yield in the 40th minute, before captain Sofiane Feghouli scored the third goal with a powerful shot that the goalkeeper failed to deal with before the end of the first half.
Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi made several changes after the break, and top scorer Islam Slimani added the fourth goal in the 87th minute with a beautiful header after Ben Rahma’s shot that hit the defender and returned to him. Algeria’s national team draw in the last match is sufficient to qualify for the decisive round in the qualifiers.
Only the group leaders qualify for the final round of qualifiers, which includes a playoff, the winner of which will qualify for the finals in Qatar next year.
