We will pressure the Saudi national team from the beginning

Australia coach Graham Arnold confirmed on Wednesday that his team will try to put pressure on Saudi Arabia from the whistle in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers match in Sydney.

Saudi Arabia leads Group B with a full mark after four matches, and is three points ahead of Australia, while the first two teams in the group qualify directly for the World Cup.

“We know that Saudi Arabia is going through a series of positive results, and we also know that during that period they played a lot of matches at home,” Arnold told reporters before the match at Western Sydney Stadium on Thursday.

He added, “So I expect that our mentality tomorrow evening is to put pressure on the opponent and make sure that we start properly, and not give him any time to play.”

Australia, who lost 2-1 to Japan in Saitama last week, are missing midfielders Tom Rogic and Aaron Moy, but will have the support of fans for the first time at home in more than two years.

With strict restrictions imposed on entry to Australia since early 2020 due to the pandemic of the emerging Corona Virus “Covid-19”, a group of players from coach Arnold’s team who are professionals abroad met their families this week for the first time in months.

“Controlling these emotions is something I’m working on very seriously,” Arnold said. I think the biggest energy players can have is going to be meeting their families.
